White Text on Black Background reading The Leadership Undercommons

What draws you to be in community with people who are building, studying, and leading toward Black liberation?

At UBUNTU Research and Evaluation, we were asked this question often — People weren’t simply interested in the results of our work; they wanted access to the way we work.

They wanted the space to think, feel, study, and grow in community. They were looking for a place where learning where

Black thought, leadership, and care were centered without compromise.

We responded by launching The Leadership Undercommons (TLU)—a nonprofit, membership-based communiversity where individuals, not just organizations, can engage in radical learning rooted in dignity, liberation, and justice. TLU is an invitation into the heart of what makes UBUNTU powerful: our commitment to Black aliveness, our unapologetic curiosity, our deep co-learning culture, and our belief that study is sacred.

TLU is a place for people who want to build a freer future, starting with themselves. It’s where we dismantle systemic oppression through education, advocacy, and community building, with particular care for those most impacted by anti-Blackness and other interlocking systems of harm. We envision a world where every person—regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, or body size—can live with dignity, be heard, and thrive.
